Please help me go into the Samsung App Store so I may download a few applications for my Samsung 4k UHD Smart TV (UN65MU6300) (HBO Max, Apple TV, etc). I receive an error number 189, “Cannot connect to the Samsung Server,” whenever I attempt to download an app. This problem occurs when I attempt to connect into my Samsung account through the menu.

Except than checking to see whether the TV software is really up to date — which it is — a Google search has yielded no results.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that I use a PiHole on the home network to disable Samsung TV OS’s intrusive advertisements. I’m not certain this is the root of the problem, but just in case, I’ll bring it up.

Okay, I’ve had enough of this for a few days now.

This is the first time this has happened with one of our Samsung TVs. Since I’ve been using pihole for four years, the app store has never failed me. It stopped playing the Samsung TV app a few days ago and began giving me an error saying it couldn’t connect to the server (Random things on a basic streaming TV app).

Pihole was freshly installed and configured, and I even purchased a new modem since my previous one was so outdated that I had to power cycle everything. The problem persists even doing a factory reset on the TVs. What am I overlooking?

My Netgear router served as my DHCP server, and I just pointed my pihole’s DNS to it. Switching the DHCP to pihole doesn’t seem to be helping.

Help is much appreciated. I’m so fed up with these Samsung TVs that I want to chuck them out the window.

Edit: After entirely deleting pihole, my network functioned normally. This is a pihole issue.

When I attempt to connect to a server using my Samsung TV app and my Plex account, it claims the server isn’t accessible or is down, even though the name of the server appears in the Plex app. I can get to this information elsewhere, thus I know it’s a lie. My Android Plex app and PC browser (Firefox) both allow me to connect to a distant server (a friend’s PC).

What I’ve done (according to other threads’ recommendations):

  • It was already up to date with the Samsung drivers when I checked them.
  • Installing and uninstalling Plex on a TV has the same effect.
  • Connecting directly via IP address yields same results
